Regional Cooperation

Regional Cooperation is a pre-condition for the membership of the Western Balkans’ countries. Regional Cooperation is also essential for these countries for their economic development, human resources development, poverty reduction, infrastructure development and represents complex process of networking on all levels in different areas. 

THIS WORKING GROUP WILL DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING THREE TOPICS IN THE UPCOMING SESSIONS:

  • Current situation in regional cooperation – achievements and challenges
    • Progress of Western Balkans countries towards the EU membership (EC Report) with focus on Serbia
    • The new architecture of regional cooperation – role of the Regional Cooperation Council, Cooperation Process in SE Europe etc.
    • Serbia and regional cooperation in the process of EU ascension
  • Experiences of Slovakia in regional cooperation – The Visegrad Group
    • History and role of regional cooperation in the process of Slovak EU integration – why the Visegrad Group
    • Similarities and differences with the SAA, how the western Balkans countries could use the experiences of the
    • Concrete examples of joint performance of the VG in the EU, positive experiences and problems 
  • Results and expectations in priority areas of regional cooperation:
    • Economic and social development
    • Energy and infrastructure
    • Justice and internal affairs
    • Cooperation in the field of security
    • Strengthening of human potential
    • Parliamentary cooperation
